Handling and Melting of Container Soy Wax (Golden Brands Soy Wax GW-444) Step One: Melting of Soy Wax - The wax should be heated to a temperature of 130o to 200o F to melt the wax. Approximately 175o F is recommended. Now is also the time to add any UV light inhibitors while the wax is melting. Do not heat the wax above 200o F. If soy wax is held at higher temperatures for long periods of time it will discolor and evaporate. Always use a thermometer when melting the wax and never leave your heated wax unattended. While the wax is melting stir the wax regularly to reduce localized heating of the oil. This will help to reduce burning of the wax while heating. Step Two: Pre-Wick Your Containers – While the wax is melting, pre-wick your containers with the wick stickers and the appropriate size candle wicks. Step Three: Adding Candle Scent and Dye - The fragrances oils and candle dyes can be added to the wax after the wax is completely liquid. After the wax has reached approximately 175o F, remove from heat and add your dye and fragrance oil. Make sure to stir the wax completely to ensure that the fragrances and dyes are completely mixed in. The recommended average fragrance load for this wax is 6% (or 1 ounce), although a 2% to 10% fragrance loads may work okay depending on the fragrance oil. Step Four: Preparing the Wax for Pouring - After the wax cools to a temperature of 155o to 165o F, you are ready to pour into your pre-wicked candle containers. Step Five: Pouring Candles - Make sure that the containers are at room temperature or slightly warmer before pouring the wax into the container. The wax should be poured in the container while the wax is 145o to 165o F to reduce cracking and speed up the cure time of the wax. If wax is to be left in a wax melter over night, the wax should be kept at a temperature of 125o to 140o F. Step Six: Centering the Wick – Simply slip the wick thru V shaped opening of your wick bar and pull up on wick to tighten & lock it into place This will allow the wick to be straight and centered in the candle when it has cooled completely. Step Seven: Curing of Candles - The candle should be allowed to cool and cure for at least 24 to 48 hours before the candle is burned. This will allow the crystals of the wax to completely form giving a nice finish to the candle. For soy wax, the longer the cure time, the better the scent throw. NOTE: After the candles cool, sometimes you will notice a hole or crater around the wick. This is normal for an all-natural soy wax. Reheating the tops of the candles with a heat gun or a toasted oven will fix this. Caution – Do Not Overheat the Candles. Only liquefy the tops.
