How to Make Natural Crystal Rock Potpourri

Natural Crystal Rock Potpourri is a better alternative to candles and botanical potpourri.

NOTE: This is just one way to color and scent the crystal potpourri. There are many other ways to achieve this process. Be creative. Water based coloring seems to work the best.

Natural Crystal Rock Potpourri is a semi-porous mineral crystal that varies in size to add to the decorative appeal. These crystals will absorb essential oils or candle fragrance oils. And can be colored and scented. They will retain the fragrance for up to six weeks depending on the temperature and air exposure. They can be heated in a potpourri dish (for stronger fragrance throw) or left at room temperature to gently fragrance a room.

To add custom color and fragrance, choose an essential oil or oil based fragrance and soap safe dye or food coloring. Glycerin can be added to increase the sheen and to retard evaporation. We recommend mixing ½ and ½ fragrance oil and DPG (Dipropylene Glycol) to get a more uniform coating on the natural crystal rocks.
 

Instructions:
For best results, layout the desired amount of natural crystal rocks you would like to color and scent on a flat surface protected by foil, plastic or cardboard. Get a 4 oz. pump spray bottle, fill with rubbing alcohol and enough soap safe dye or food coloring to get the desired color. Spray natural crystal rocks uniformly. Let dry. Spray up to 3 to 4 times to get the desired color. After they are completely dry, mix your ½ fragrance and ½ DPG along with the optional glycerin together in another 4 oz. pump sprayer. Note: You can add up to 25% glycerin by weight, as a percentage of the fragrance mixture, to retard evaporation, add sheen and get a more uniform coating of the fragrance oil. Using the 4 oz. pump sprayer, spray mist the natural crystal rock potpourri uniformly. Use a metal spoon or fork to stir and mix the natural crystal rocks to get a uniform coating. Let dry. Spray mist once more. For best results, let dry 24 to 48 hours before packaging.

Note: When the fragrance throw weakens... Put the crystals in a zip lock bag, add some of the refresher fragrance oil and shake the crystals vigorously for 20 to 30 seconds. Pour out on foil or plastic and let dry.
